One year sentence for woman found in violation of probation
NORWICH – The Chenango County Court convened for a morning session on Monday, July 18, where the case of Samantha L. Ryder was heard. Ryder appeared in Court with her appointed defense attorney Aaron Dean. Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride represented the people of Chenango County in the case, while The Honorable Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. presided over matters.
It was alleged that Ryder violated the terms of her probation agreement. She was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; one count of criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, a class A misdemeanor; and one count of loitering in the first degree, a class B misdemeanor, in Johnson City on May 16, 2016.
The matter was previously conferenced, and Ryder agreed to enter a plea of guilty to violating the terms of her probation.
After the defendant was sworn in, and her plea of willful violation was accepted by the court, McBride had an opportunity to speak on behalf of the people. He said, “She (Ryder) needs to make sure that when she gets out of jail, that she stays away from drugs.”
Public Defender Aaron Dean, said, “She (Ryder) has been employed full-time since November, 2015. She continues to strive for a better life. She is looking forward to completing her sentence and moving forward with her life.”
Judge Revoir revoked Ryder's probation, found her in willful violation, and re-sentenced her to a determinate sentence of one year in the Chenango County Correctional Facility.
