Please be honest

You may notice this reminder at various Evening Sun vending boxes and retail locations over the next few weeks asking Evening Sun readers to please pay for the papers they are picking up.

“The theft rate from our Evening Sun newspaper racks is extremely high and the reality is that we may have to remove several racks from their current locations,” said Richard Snyder, publisher of The Sun. “We have been very poor in monitoring the theft at these racks over the past couple of years and as a result we had to recently write off more than $5,000 worth of stolen papers to bring these account balances in line.”

“We also have similar problems with customer theft at many of our food and retail store locations where individuals are picking up our newspapers and walking out of the stores without paying for them,” added Snyder. “Since these locations only pay for copies that have scanned, the theft of these papers amounts to hundreds of dollars each week.”
