Wretched weather wreaks havoc on Chenango County roads
CHENANGO COUNTY – A large band of rain moved through the Chenango County area on Monday, August 1, creating chaos around the County.
The rain continued at a steady pace from early morning, until about 10:30 p.m. Over four and a half inches of rain water were reported to have accumulated in multiple parts of the County.
The severe weather caused a number of customers in the Chenango County region to lose power. As of 9 a.m., NYSEG reports that 365 people still remain without power in the area.
A Flash Flood Warning was issued by The National Weather Service in Binghamton at 8:35 p.m., which lasted until 11:30 p.m. Multiple road closures, as well as mud slides, were also reported, with many major roads impassable due to being breached by the heavy flood waters.
According to the City of Norwich/Chenango County Emergency Operations Center, as of 7 a.m., all State and County Roads in Chenango County have been reopened, with the following exceptions:
