3v3 Live Soccer Tournament an instant success
OXFORD – Chenango County thoroughly enjoyed hosting its first ever 3v3 Live Soccer Tour this past weekend, on Sunday August 7.
The tournament, a live action display of 27 teams, both local and out of state, enjoyed a Sunday filled with ideal late summer weather as teams – which consisted of six individuals, with three playing (without a goal keeper) at any time. All 27 teams were guaranteed at least four 20 minute games split into two 10 minute halves. At the end of the day long tournament a champion was crowned from each of the five different divisions.
“Your town and the fields were like something coming out of a postcard, it was incredible,” said Northeast Director of 3v3 Live Soccer Tour, Joe Dutra. “The fields were in spectacular condition. I have been doing this for a while now and I have to say it is probably one of the best fields I have seen.”
Dutra went on to explain that due to this being the inaugural tournament for 3v3 Live in Chenango County he personally attended the event to make sure everything ran smoothly.
“Everything went smooth, everyone was so nice, it seemed like all the kids and parents were engaged. I was doing my little walk around during the tournament and I would get people coming up to me thanking me and saying they’re excited that were coming back to do it again next year,” said Dutra. “Julien (Drelich) did a great job with the fields you guys should really proud. I was talking to some of the high school kids even and they really don’t have much going on after this, so it was nice to hear they were looking forward to this tournament.”
Field Coordinator and U19 Chargers Soccer head coach Julien Drelich explained that even though he was busy making ends meet all day long, he thoroughly enjoyed the process, as there were no missteps throughout the day.
“We had a team from Connecticut another from Massachusetts, there were teams from New Jersey, and then some local teams, we had so many cars but we had our volunteers helping with directing parking. But the commentary we got from people was all fantastic. Some of the people from Connecticut had already played in a tournament a few days before and they said our facility was wonderful. They were amazed by the infrastructure we had there at our field compared to other places they had played, the barn, the concessions stand, the indoor bathrooms,” said Drelich. “The 3v3 Live guys were really ecstatic actually, they said they hadn’t seen grass in a while. There was just drought everywhere else they went, the fields were burned up.”
The following teams were named champions of their respective divisions.
Boys and Girls 2006/2007 division: CT United (a nationally ranked team from Connecticut) would breeze through the competition to win first place, defeating Oneonta Magic 10-0. The Goal Getters would claim third place when they beat The Junior Blackhawks 8-5.
Boys and Girls 2004/2005 division: Team Paden (from Oxford) would claim the championship over UV Thunder with a score of 3-2. Chewie's Last Stand would secure a third place spot when they defeated The Waterville Blasters with a score of 7-4.
Boys and Girls 2002 division: Mcgraw Phoenix (Marathon) would edge out The Oneonta Lightning with a score of 5-4 in the finals for their crown. While The Orphans would step up for a third place spot defeating All Day 8-4.
Boys and Girls high school division: CNY Cosmos (Waterville) would notch the championship win over Tornado FC (Norwich), defeating them 7-2. 3 of a kind (Norwich) would secure the third place trophy when they defeated Storm Soccer at a score of 5-3.
Adults division: Controlled Chaos (Oneonta) would see the top crown go their way when they narrowly defeated MDC (Norwich and Oxford) at a score of 7-6. Storm FC (Unadilla Valley) would see the third place spot slide their way in a landslide 5-0 victory over MYP Banshees.
The one day tournament took place at Emerson Field located at 4543 State Highway 12 in Oxford, and featured 27 respective teams from all over the Northeastern United States. Drelich explained that the success of the tournament can continue to grow as they only utilized five soccer fields, with a potential of expanding to around 20 to 25 fields if the numbers grow this time next summer.
“It was a beautiful day, the weather was fantastic, the wind was just right,” said Drelich.
3v3 Live currently signed a two year lease to bring back the tournament again in the summer of 2017, and hopefully beyond.
“We are definetly coming back next year for sure,” said Dutra. “It was a great time, everyone enjoyed it and the high school kids were telling me they are already excited for next year.”
