Holy Family adopts new free and reduced price meal policy

NORWICH - The Diocese of Syracuse Catholic Schools has announced a free and reduced price meal and milk policy for Holy Family school.
School officials have adopted a new eligibility criteria for both free and reduced price meals, and Holy Family is urging people to apply. Parents can determine if their child is eligible by completing and submitting the application sent home with an accompanying letter of the policy’s description.
Applications may be submitted at any time during the school year and additional copies can be found at principal Lydia Brenner’s office.
Households that currently comprise children who receive aid from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) must complete an application listing the child’s name, the appropriate case number relative to the program in which they are receiving assistance, and the signature of an adult household member. Or they may provide an eligibility letter for free meals/milk issued by the NYS Education Department.
A separate application for foster children is no longer necessary. Foster children may be listed on the application as a family member at the residence they inhabit. These applications must include the foster child’s name and personal use income.
Other households may apply for assistance as well. Any information provided on applications will be confidential and used only for determining eligibility.
Under the provisions of the policy, a designated official has been appointed to review applications and determine eligibility. Nikole Strano has been appointed as Holy Family’s Hearing Official. In the event that someone is dissatisfied with the official’s ruling, he or she may request a hearing to appeal.
The school district reserves the right to verify information on the application at any time during the school year. In the event that a parent cannot do so, the child or children will no longer be able to receive free or reduced price meals and milk.
