164 years of service recognized in Firemen’s Parade
NORWICH - Tuesday night’s Chenango County Firemen’s Parade saw two very distinguished former Norwich Fire Department Chief Officers in attendance courtesy of the Maydole Hose Company.

Upon entering the judging area in front of the grandstand, former Chief Handy and former Chief Williams were recognized alongside current Assistant Chief Patrick Ford for their devotion and commitment to the Maydole Hose Company and City of Norwich Fire Department. Former Chief Handy’s 60 years of service, former Chief Williams’ 57 years of service, and Assistant Chief Ford’s 47 years of service combine for a total of 164 years.
After the parade, Norwich engine 232 remained at the fairgrounds where the chiefs were greeted by many old friends and firemen who were delighted to see them both. There, the firemen shared stories and reminisced about days past.
“The City of Norwich Fire Department and the Maydole Hose Company are truly blessed by these two individuals.” said NFD Chief Tracy Chawgo. “Their leadership, knowledge, and dedication not only made the Norwich Fire Department a first-class operation, but they had the same effect throughout New York State. Firemen throughout the state knew where Norwich was because of them.”
