Earlville Troop 5 Boy Scouts visit historic Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG - After many months of fundraising and planning, the Earlville Troop 5 Boy Scouts set out on a week-long adventure to explore historic Gettysburg.
Troop 5 departed Earlville early on the morning of August 8th and returned home exhausted but enlightened on the evening of August 13th.
In spite of the hot and humid weather, the Boy Scouts embarked on three different hikes on their trip, including a 10 mile trek on the Billy Yank Trail, as well as two four mile hikes on the Johnny Reb Trail and the Historic Gettysburg Trail.
Their stay also included visits to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor’s Center as well as the Eisenhower National Historic Site.
Considering the different hikes as well as many explorations in downtown Gettysburg, the Scouts concluded that they had spent some 50 miles on their feet throughout the week. Though the unfavorable weather took a toll on the Scouts at times, they persevered and made it through while absorbing more information about the Civil War than they could have any place elsewhere.
Calling it an experience of a lifetime, the Boy Scouts are grateful for the support of their Troop Leaders, parents and families, and the local community for making their trip possible.
