Second annual Kick Cancer-a-thon

NORWICH – The second annual Norwich City Schools Kick Cancer-a-thon was held on Saturday, August 20, from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. The event is held to celebrate a day of soccer and raise funds to fight cancer at the Norwich High School track and turf. The athletes raised the money through sponsors before donating all funds raised to the American Cancer Society.

This year the participants raised a total of $1,750 which was accepted by the organization at the event. There was also contests every hour including a shooting accuracy test, 3 vs. 3 tournament, juggling ball contest, gate pass throughs, penalty kick off, and world cup team challenge. In addition to these events there was a concession stand open for the duration to support the Girls Soccer Booster Club. Some of the highlighted winners include for Womens 3 vs. 3 tournament: Kait Dowdall, Gabby Mirabito, and Jen Patten ,and for Mens 3 vs. 3 Killian Benedict, Brendan Brush, and Luis Diaz. Our individual winners in the Penalty Kicks were for Women: Alyssa Welch and for Men: Keegan Prime.

The event’s major sponsors were Chobani, who donated both product and event t-shirts, and Coca Cola who donated product to support the event. Our other local sponsors included Benedicts, Community Bank, Curtis Lumber, Dunkin Donuts, Golden Artists, Lowes, McCredys, McDonalds, Ninas Pizzeria, Olympia Sports, ParkPlace, Pires Flowers, Price Chopper, Skillins Jewelry, Subway, and Tops who gave supplies, giftcards, and money.
