Norwich U-12 Girls’ Softball wins Tri-Valley Championship

DERUYTER – The Norwich U-12 Girls’ Softball Team won the Tri-Valley Championship against DeRuyter 2 at the DeRuyter Fireman's Field Days in front of a crowd of fifty faithful Norwich fans last week.
The Lady Tornados were led into battle with starting pitcher Madalyn Quattrocchi going two innings and giving up three runs in the first inning which would prove to be the only offense of the game for DeRuyter. Taylor Finch and Taylor McCarthy closed the game with three scoreless innings.
Coach P.J. Quattrocchi said, “The Lady Tornadoes had stellar defensive plays from the infield including, two plays at the plate by Reghan Smith and a throw out on a steel of third by Elyssa Bresee to Taylor McCarthy to name a few.”
“Once again the Norwich Tornadoes offensive power was on display with notable hits by Taylor Finch, Kayla Sherman and amazing base running from everyone on the team,” Quattrocchi said. “The final score 18 - 3 proved that Norwich came to play and have fun doing it.”
According to coach P.J. Quattrocchi the future of Norwich softball is bright, these girls are evidence that hard work and dedication pays off. “They played their hearts out all season and deserve this championship,” said the coach.
Coach George Finch provided a special treat for the girls, contacting the Norwich Fire Dept. And Norwich City Police Dept. to escort the team into the city with a hero's welcome.
