Chenango Valley Technologies sees expansion to increase production capabilities
SHERBURNE - Chenango Valley Technologies (CVT) in Sherburne has recently expanded their production capabilities with the purchase of a new injection molding machine and storage silo.
CVT President Shawn Baker said that when a new job required a 500 ton molding machine, on short notice, CVT purchased a new 500 ton Milacron injection molding machine for $300,000. The machine was entirely self-funded and was installed in August of this year.
The new molding machine specializes in lawn and garden and automotive parts, and while the Milacron crew helped with the installation, Baker said that CVT’s competent and talented staff played an important role in getting the machine up-and-running on such short notice.
CVT offers in house part design, mold design, and molding to create various plastic pieces. CVT is a custom contract manufacturer, and Baker said, “Our customers range from people who operate from their kitchen table, to companies with thousands of employees, and everywhere in between.”
In November of last year, CVT purchased a 3D printer to develop tangible prototypes of products for customers.
“We can start with a cocktail napkin sketch, assist a customer in finalizing that design, and then 3D print it. We do mold design, mold making, and injection molding, all in house,” said Baker.
The addition of the storage silo allows CVT to purchase materials in bulk, which Baker says saves the company, and the customers, a significant amount of money.
The addition of the new molding machine ups the number of injection molding presses at CVT to 21, ranging from 20 tons to 500 tons.
CVT was founded in 1972 as Chenango Tool and Die company. In 1995, Chenango Tool and Die purchased one of their customers in Madison Plastics, thus becoming Chenango Valley Technologies.
