Greene field hockey kick-starts season with a win
GREENE - Greene field hockey started off their season on the right note on Monday, Aug. 29, by defeating Afton at home 4-1.
“We scored within the first three and a half minutes in the game, and after that it was almost like our jitters took over,” said Greene head coach Christine McCabe.
The Trojans led 2-1 at the end of the first half before shutting out Afton and pulling away in second half. Sophia Brown led the way offensively for Greene with two goals in the matchup. Gina Labdell and Claire Moxley each added a goal a piece.
The Trojans will take on Vestal tonight in an important matchup at Greene. McCabe said that last year, Greene and Vestal split their series, winning a game a piece. The Trojans JV team will play at 4 with the Varsity following at 7.
