Cornell Cooperative Extension offers a wide variety of programs this fall

Madison County Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE), located in Morrisville, has a full schedule of programs for agriculture producers in the Central NY region this fall. In collaboration with both local and state partners, programs will be covering a wide variety of topics, including production and business related issues.
• Join CCE on Sept. 29, for the opportunity to learn how to grow mushrooms at home. Hosted in partnership with Onondaga County CCE, this hands-on workshop will cover the basics of growing cultivated mushrooms. The workshop will be held at the Cazenovia Public Library from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. For a registration fee of $30, participants will learn about at-home and small-scale mushroom production and will even inoculate their own log to take home.
• All are invited to attend the 27th Annual Madison County Hop Fest hosted by the Madison County Historical Society. This year the Hop Fest, which will be held September 16 to 18, will offer a wide variety of activities including guest speakers, food and beer pairing, craft beer samples, and a Brewery Hop Tour plus much, much more. For a full list of activities and to purchase tickets visit www.madisoncountyhopfest.org.
• Beef and Dairy producers are encouraged to attend the Beef Quality Assurance training scheduled for the evening of October 6 at Great Northern Farm, 1716 Fisk Road, Eaton, NY. This training is aimed at increasing the overall quality of meat through proper animal handling techniques.
• Equine owners in Madison County and the surrounding area are welcome to attend two workshops hosted by CCE this October 12 and 26, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. These practical workshops will discuss at-home animal health care, hoof care, and maintenance.
• If you have ever considered starting a farm or agricultural enterprise, or if you have ever wondered how your land could work harder for you, join CCE for a two-day workshop on October 7 and 8 as they discuss what it takes to start and operate a farm, answering any questions aspiring farmers in the community might have.
CCE is an employer and educator recognized for valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities, and providing equal program and employment opportunities. Accommodations for persons with special needs may be requested by contacting their office.
