Annual S–E Girls Soccer Tourney

SHERBURNE-EARLVILLE – From Friday, Sept. 2, until the championship game on the following day, on Saturday, Sept. 3, the Marauder's of S-E would host their annual kicked-off tournament on their home fields.
The weekend of games for the four team tournament was broken into qualifying rounds on the first day, followed by a consolation game and championship the following day.
• Right out of the gates on Friday, it was Frankfort-Schuyler facing off against Morrisville Eaton/Hamilton, a game that would be won by a mere one point in the second half. It was all ME/Hamilton in the first half of the contest as they would score the lone goal in that time frame. However, a rejuvenated Frankfurt-Schuyler would rally for a three score second half – in comparison to the one goal scored in the second for ME/Hamilton – lifting Frankfort-Schuyler to the championship game the following day.
Rose Simmons, Hanna Linscott and Hailey Traut would each score a goal for F-S, while Emily McCann and Mackensie Sternburg would each score one a piece in the losing effort.
• The Lady Marauder's would suffer a surprising loss to visiting Unatego in the second qualifying game of the evening.
S-E would move into the second half with a 1-1 tie against Unatego, something that wouldn’t last long once the teams took the field following the break.
Unatego erupted in the second half for a five score onslaught over S-E, while S-E would only manage to answer back with one additional goal in their defense.
S-E would see one goal a piece come from Emily Stanton, Lexi Elderkin, while Unatego would see Dana Stepp earn three herself, with Tanner Reed scoring two, (the third athlete and final goal was not reported).
• The following day, the Mauraders would get some redemption against a struggling ME/Hamilton as they would effectively run the table in the game, winning the consolation game and taking third in their tournament.
S-E would impressively blank ME/Hamilton the entire contest, while their offense would see an evenly paced game with two scores coming in each half for a 4-0 victory. Taylor Coughlin would nab two goals in the game, while Lexi Elderkin, and Tessa Cole each recorded one a piece in the win.
• The championship game at the weekend tournament would be a landslide in favor of Unatego, as Unatego would simply prove to be too much to handle for Frankfort-Schuyler.
Unatego would see a 5-0 victory go their way for the weekend championship, as they proceeded to net two goals in the first followed by a three goal second half. Tanner Reed would earn two of the five for Unatego, while Hezel Haehnel, Kallie Mae Walker, and Morgan Newman each grabbed one of their own in the championship win.
Despite only a third place finish in their season opening home tournament, solid play from the S-E squad earned two girls a place among the tournament all-stars. Taylor Coughlin, and Miranda Wright of S-E would be named to this all-star selection, as well as Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton's Emily LeBlanc, and Mackensie Sternburg.
Sherburne-Earlville will played their next game away at Cooperstown on Sept. 7, followed by another tournament the very next day on Sept. 8, when they will be participating in the Mt. Markham Optimist Tournament.
