High powered Trojans stomp Afton/Harpursville in Chenango County showdown
AFTON – The Trojan offense was too much for Afton to manage when Greene traveled to Afton on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Greene would see Spencer Klumpp score a trio of goals in the first half – all goals scored in a span of 15 minutes – with the first coming at the 28th minute when Rave Bentley hit Klumpp with a through pass around 14 yards out for the assisted score. The 26th minute saw Mike Repp hit Klumpp with a cross pass to the back post for the 2-0 lead at the time. Klumpp's final goal came at the 13th minute when Alec Friar hit Klumpp with a through pass in the middle of the penalty area that found the back of the net.
However, despite Klumpp's trio of goals and an additional being tacked on by a teammate for a 4 goal first half for Greene, Afton/Harpursville would see Mikey Graven-Briggs score his first goal on the night with 10 minutes to go in the first half, when Zach Alford hit him with a through pass at the top of the box.
On top 4-1 at the halftime break, Greene proceeded to double their score in the second half, scoring a monstrous four more goals. Afton would squeek in another as well for a respectible two score game. It was in fact Graven-Briggs' of Afton/Harpursville again with just 13 minutes in the game who scored his second goal, as he hit a rainbow shot from about 22 yards away over The Trojan keeper.
Greene (3-0) will next face off against Unadilla Valley at home on Monday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. Afton/Harpursville (1-1) will play next at home against Sherburne-Earlville on Friday, Sept. 10 at 4:30 p.m.
