Coventryville Church reaches out to community by offering free meals
COVENTRYVILLE – The First Congressional Church, in Coventryville, has been offering up meals with a free will offering for the community throughout the year. The church offers a breakfast every third Saturday of the month, as well as a dinner on the first Saturday of each month.
Pastor Joyce Besemer, who leads the congregation, said, “It's an opportunity for the community to be together, to share a meal and some great fellowship, meet new and old friends and hopefully generate a little much needed income for our church.”
Besemer said that the meals can range anywhere from a simple soup and sandwich, or a chicken barbeque, to a sit down meal of chicken and biscuits, meatloaf or or a variety of options.
The church also receives day-old bread from Price Chopper twice a week, which they make available for the community free of charge. “I am happy to say that this has been a wonderful outreach to the needs of some most appreciative folks in our area and we are happy to be part of that,” said Besemer.
The First Congressional Church of Coventryville's congregation consists of just about 10 members. “The miracle of it all is that from the oldest to the youngest, everyone works together in outreach and service, keeping our church doors open and extending a welcome to the community,” Besemer said. “Many of the folks who attend our breakfasts and dinners are not our church members but they are members of our community who either worship elsewhere, are employed on Sunday, are lonely or know a good meal when its offered. Some arrive when the doors open, eat a good meal and stay until we close just to enjoy the company of neighbors and friends. The reward is knowing we have planted the seed of God's love as these good folks go back out into the world that isn't always as welcoming or caring.”
The First Congressional Church is located at the corner of State Highway 206 and 41, as you turn onto County Road 27, at the blinking light in Coventryville.
If you wish to receive more information about the upcoming meals that will be offered by the church, you can contact Pastor Joyce at (607)-639-1841.
