Division showdown leads to tie

GREENE – The Trojans varsity boys soccer team hosted their division rival Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in a game that would come down to every shot as the teams ended in a 2-2 after double overtime.
The halftime lead would be Greene's after Brandon Whitaker and River McCumiskey would each net a goal in the first half. B-G would enjoy a goal from Trevor Halaquist to reach the 2-1 halftime score.
It was Halaquist for the Bobcats who would knot the game up at 2-2 with another score in the second half. The teams would enter extra time before a 0-0 score was reach in double overtime resulting in an ultimate tie.
Although Greene would manage 11 shots on goal they could not muster the accuracy to land more than two scoring shots, while the Bobcats would see six shots on goal and two corners for their squad. In the net for Greene was Ryan Lohsen who recorded four saves, while B-G would see their keeper, Sean Jones enjoy six saves for his team.
“Both team left it all out there. It was a hard fought contest meant to determine the leader in the division,” said Greene head coach Richard Tallman.
This leaves Greene (4-0-1) and B-G (4-0-1) still deadlocked in a tie for the division lead following Wednesday's contest.
Greene will now prepare to host their annual Greene Tournament which gets kicked off on Friday, Sept. 16 when Sherburne-Earlville will play Chenango Forks at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup between Greene and Afton at 7 p.m.
B-G will face Unatego next this coming Monday, Sept. 19, where they will travel to Unatego to play at 5 p.m.
“It was a hard-played game and a fair result,” said B-G head coach Peter Feltham.
