Norwich golf splits to start the week
GREENE/VESTAL – The Norwich varsity golf team enjoyed a close win on Monday, Sept. 12, before suffering a loss Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the hands of Seton Catholic.
• Norwich would travel to Genegantslet Golf Course in Greene to play Chenango Forks this past Monday, in a matchup that would nine stroke team win over the Blue Devils, at 182 to 191.
Norwich would see Brenon Maynard and Alex Gage record the match and team low both earning 34 stroke performances. Following was Nate Scheer and Ryan Johnson who both earned a 36, with AJ Little and Griffon Clipston both bringing up 42s each.
Fork the Blue Devils, their medalist, Ryan Gresham, would enjoy a 35 on the course. Followed closely by Kyle Norton with a 37, Derrick Everett with a 38,Kevin Solomon with a 39, and Bryan Heller and Ryan Locke each finish with a 42.
• Norwich then took to the road the very next day to travel toVestal to play at the Vestal Hills Golf Course, a par 36, to which the tables would then be turned as Norwich suffered a close defeat, losing 226 to Seton Catholic's 212 team score.
Seton Catholic would enjoy the low score on the day, as Brendan Burtis would earn a 37, followed by Tommy Davis at 39, Finbarr Huff at 43, Michael Bucko at 46, Pete Hartrick at 47, and Andre Haykal at 51.
For Norwich it was again Brenon Maynard who would enjoy their medalist slot with a 38 stroke day, followed by Alex Gage at 40, Ryan Johnson at 46, Nate Scheer at 49, AJ Little at 53, and griffon Clipston at 54.
The non-league loss to Seton Catholic would send Norwich to 3-3 record overall, as they will next take on Johnson City at Endwell Greens on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m.
