Oxford golf extends record to reach .500 by just one stroke

OXFORD – The varsity Oxford golf team has not reached a 4-4 record, after handily defeating visiting Deposit/Hancock by just one stroke, winning 244 to 245.
“This is great, we lost some starters (last year) and it is pretty good that the kids are picking it up. We have four seniors in the starting six and they’re doing better than they did last year,” said Oxford coach Mark Muller.
On the greens of Bluestone Golf Course, where a par 34 was played on the front nine holes, Oxford would see Garrett Depew be named their medalist and record a team low of 43 on the day. Depew was followed by Jason Davis at 46, Austin Crawford at 48, Jacob Marrone at 49, and Dylan Depew at 58.
Despite the loss, Deposit/Hancock would see the low score on the day between the two teams, as Seth Simmons would record a 39, followed by Mason Karcher at 44, Lane Bass at 48, Roger Newman at 55, and Matt Karcher at 59.
“I am thrilled,” said coach Muller following the win.
Next up for Oxford (4-4) they will be on the road on Thursday, Sept. 15, at Sidney, before they will head to Unadilla Valley on Friday, Sept. 16.
