Oxford begins 2016 campaign on top
HANCOCK – The Oxford varsity volleyball team earned their very first win in 2016 on the road, defeating Hancock on Sept. 13, in three sets for a 3-0 victory.
Hancock would offer up some competition early on in the match, but would see a composed Blackhawk team pull away further after each win in the match.
Oxford would earn the 1-0 lead over Hancock when they won the first set at 25-22, before jumping out to a 25-17 win in the second set.
Leading 2-0 in the match and looking to earn the win, Oxford would once again play solid defense, minimizing Hancock's scoring opportunities for a 25-14 match winning set.
Oxford would see Taylor Munson and Krysten Vigus each gain five aces in the win. Munson, Raigen Ehly, and Andrea Dempsey would each enjoy three kills a piece. While Allison Beckwith and Indaria Quintana would help earn their team the victory when Beckwith racked up four assists, and Quintana earned three digs in the win.
On the Hancock side Haleigh Nugent would record three aces, followed by Lexi Houghton and Sierra Young who each netted two kills a piece, before Jocelyn D'Ellia would tack on three assists in their efforts against the visiting Blackhawks.
Oxford (1-0) will be on the road for their second game of the season, when they will travel to Delhi on Friday, Sept. 16.
