Bobcat earn first league win
BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford varsity volleyball team played host to Harpusville-Afton on Wednesday, Sept. 14, a game in which B-G would only drop on set to win in convincing fashion at 3-1.
The Bobcats would see a 2-0 lead go in their favor as they handily won the first set – 25-19 – before facing stiffer competition the second time around, narrowly winning 26-24.
The momentum from the second set would carry Harpursville-Afton to a third set victory when they would beat B-G 25-20.
B-G would not sit by idly, as they swiftly corrected their game plan to bowl over the visitors 25-14 to close out the 3-1 team win.
The lady Bobcats would be lead in the statistical category by a quartette of youngsters, as tenth grader Abigail Selfridge would record four aces, 10 kills, and 13 assists in the victory. Selfridge was joined by eighth grader Erica Selfridge who tacked on five aces, six kills, and an astounding 20 assists. Zamira Caldwell, a tenth grader would also tally up five kills in the contest.
However, B-G head coach Tami Selfridge would speak highly of another tenth grade standout, Alexis Carr, who recorded four aces, and a solid 11 kills in the win.
“Excellent game for sophomore Alexis Carr, whose hits were instrumental in leading the Bobcats to their first league victory,” said coach Selfridge.
On the Harpursville-Afton side, Tienna Avery would enjoy nine assists, Dallas Ferman would have four aces, Emma Davis would have four blocks, and Amanda Greenwood would tally up five kills.
Next up for B-G (2-0 overall, 1-0 in MAC league), they will travel to Walton on Friday, Sept. 16.
