Chenango Arts Council announces $129,280 available in grants

The Chenango Arts Council (CAC) is pleased to announce a continuation in funding from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) for the 2017 Broome, Chenango, and Otsego Decentralization (DEC) Grant Program.
$129,280 in grants are available through the DEC Program to non-profit organizations and artists who partner with an eligible non-profit for cultural initiatives in 2017. Funding is available for grants up to $5,000 each to support Community Arts (CA) and Arts Education (AE) grants in Broome, Chenango, and Otsego counties. The deadline to apply for grants will be January 10, 2017.
NYSCA established the DEC Program in 1977 to foster the continued development of local cultural resources responsive to community need. DEC serves all 62 counties of NYS including areas of geographic isolation, economical disadvantage, and the ethnically diverse. The basic principle of DEC re-grant funding is local decision-making using a peer panel review process.
Community Arts grants provide support for arts and cultural projects to community-based, non-profit organizations, groups, collectives, and artists. CA support enables emerging artists and organizations to grow professionally while enhancing the cultural vibrancy in communities and neighborhoods where they live and operate.
Arts Education grants offer two funding categories: K-12 In-School Projects and After-School & Community-Based Learning. Funds can support local arts education projects that take place in-school and/or in after-school programs. Emphasis is placed on the depth and quality of the creative process where participants either learn through or about the arts.
The Broome, Chenango, and Otsego DEC Program serves as a catalyst for local cultural development exposing children, adults, and seniors to events that can enrich and enhance their lives. Funding provided through these programs aim to strengthen communities by reaching the most rural of townships and villages, providing increased access to a greater quality of life through the arts. Since 1986, the CAC has administered the DEC Program in Chenango County.
Opportunities are for projects through December 31, 2017. Visit www.chenangoarts.org for DEC Program guidelines and application form, or send an email to info@chenangoarts.org. You may also call 336-2787(ARTS) for more information.
