Battle of Chenango County undefeateds: Bobcats prevail handing UV first loss
NEW BERLIN – A battle on the courts, a matchup between two undefeated Chenango County teams, a best out of five – took place on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the Bobcats of Bainbridge-Guilford traveled to New Berlin to face the varsity volleyball team of Unadilla Valley.
Someone would go home a winner, while the other team would have to suffer through their first loss, a blemish on a previously unblemished record.
The Bobcats and their young but powerful gameplay handed them a 3-0 sweep of the Storm. In what most expected to be a nail-biter, it was in fact all B-G, as Uv would seem to struggle for the first time in 2016.
B-G won each of the first three sets in convincing fashion at 25-12, 25-6, and 25-7.
In the win for Bainbridge-Guilford Abigail Selfridge recorded nine aces, 11 assists, and 10 kills. Zamira Caldwell had seven aces, nine kills, and two blocks. Erica Selfridge had five aces, 15 assists, and three kills, while Alexis Carr snagged one ace, and four kills.
No statistics were provided for Unadilla Valley in the loss. Following the loss UV traveled to Oxford for a match, where a second loss was had, more will be reported on this game in Monday's edition of The Evening Sun.
Next up for Bainbridge-Guilford (8-0 overall) they will head to Sidney on Monday, Oct. 3. While Unadilla Valley (7-2) will be looking to rebound to their winning form when they travel to Harpursville on Monday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
