Magicians win despite SE's Bates 30th career goal
HERKIMER – The ladies of Herkimer high school hosted the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders field hockey team on Sept. 29, in a match that would be decided ultimately at the half time break, Herkimer won the game 3-1 for a final score.
The Magicians scored the first two goals over S-E in daunting fashion, with a goal coming at 13:38 and 4:06 left on the clock in the first half.
“After a quick time out to make some adjustments, S-E came out and scored at 3:32,” said Sherburne-Earlville head coach Sheila Cooman.
Still down by one goal at 2-1, the lady Marauders had grabbed the momentum in the contest for the time being, following S-E's senior and leading scorer Alexa Bates strike. Bates was assisted on the score by Kaley Judge, as this particular goal marked her 30th goal of her high school career.
Unfortunately for S-E this momentum could not be sustained throughout the break at the half as Herkimer emerged from the break and scored a quick strike just three minutes into the second half.
S-E would fight, keeping Herkimer scoreless the remainder of the game, however a final score of 3-1 would hand S-E the loss.
Scoring for Herkimer in the contest was Savannah Stalteri with one goal and one assists and Karlie Helmen with two goals and one assist. Herkimer would have 10 shots on goal and three corners, while their goalkeeper Lilah Ramsey saved five shots.
In the loss for S-E the lady Marauders would have fix shots on goal, with five corners, while their goalkeeper Lexie Jordan saved five shots.
Next up for Sherburne-Earlville field hockey they will travel to SUNY Morrisville’s stadium to play Morrisville-Eaton on Monday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m.
