Lumberjacks chop Greene down, capitalizing for close win
DEPOSIT – The lady Trojans of the varsity field hockey team, suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at the hands of the Deposit Lumberjacks.
With another loss on the record, coming to Delhi on Oct.4, the Trojans will be still working on capitalization of the opportunities they have in games as a main focus going forward.
“Hard loss to swallow, but the other team played well and we didn't show up,” said Greene head coach Christine McCabe.
Of the 12 shots on goal from the Lumberjacks, one first half shot found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead at the half. Greene was able to hold Deposit in check for the majority of the game as their goalkeeper was able to step up her play recording nine saves on the day. It was the offense of Greene – with on two shots on goal – that truly struggled in their efforts on the day.
“We had a corner with time expiring, to tie it and take it to overtime and couldn't convert,” said coach McCabe. “They outplayed us.”
Up next for the ladies of the Greene varsity field hockey team, they will have some time to return to practice before they host Spencer Van Etten on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m.
