Bobcats fend off the Crimson Knights
AFTON – Harpursville-Afton hosted the Bainbridge Bobcats in a southern Chenango County showdown, to which the Bobcats evenly paced offense gained the 2-0 victory.
The game on Oct. 5, saw a 1-0 halftime score following a Ryan Porter score.
“Ryan Porter scored with 27:50 left in the first half on a penalty kick due to Afton/Harpursville committing a handball in the penalty area,” said Harpursville-Afton head coach Todd Dancesia.
The 1-0 lead for B-G remained that until 17:07 left in the game in the second half, when Brandon Scherhaufer sealed the victory for B-G, receiving a cross from Xavier Cherniak for the strike.
The offensive rain of shots on goal from B-G would dwarf Hapursville-Afton's as B-G recorded 37 shots on goal and nine corners to the Crimson Knights eight shots and four corners.
“Nate Austin made 21 saves in order to keep the knights in the game,” said coach Dancesia of his goalkeeper's 21 save performance.
On the B-G side Sean Jones made four saves in the shutout win.
Next up for Bainbridge-Guilford they will host Greene on Friday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m., while Harpursville-Afton will travel to Walton that same Friday for a game scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
