Annual Classic Casino Night to be held Friday
NORWICH – Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, and Texas Hold ‘Em are just a few of the gaming options at the annual Classic Casino Night at the Northeast Classic Car Museum.
The action is set to begin at 6 p.m. and run until 10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at 24 Rexford St. in Norwich.
“Casino Night is a night where people come together to help support the Northeast Classic Car Museum by trying their hand against Lady Luck. The night starts off with a wonderful dinner and silent auction items. Then the fun begins at the tables where Community Celebrity Dealers work our many gambling tables like Roulette, Blackjack, Craps, Poker and Let It Ride. At the end of night you take your winnings which is fake currency and try your hand at winning the many donated live auction items,” said Robert Jeffrey.
Those who have purchased a ticket, which are $65 for the general public and $60 for members, are in for a night full of food and gaming, with the opportunity to win from a plethora of prizes. It was stated that walk-ins are welcome. Admission also includes a $30,000 gaming card, where folks can take their winnings to bid on live auction items. The gaming tables are from the Spencer Daniels Agency.
In addition to the live auction, a silent auction will be held.
Norwich Mayor Christine Carnrike will be attending for the third time.
When asked if she would be taking part in the gambling festivities, she said, “I have only ever played Craps at Casino Night (my gambling is limited to penny machines at Tioga Downs or Turning Stone a few times a year). Bill Loomis kindly taught me what I needed to know about Craps at Casino Night back in 2013. I would never gamble at a "table" in a real casino. I work too hard for my money to watch it disappear in a flash. With the "Casino Cash" I can take the risk of gambling knowing that at the end of the evening I can use my winnings to bid on prizes auctioned off at the end of the event.”
Prizes include, but are not limited to: a Skillin's Jewelers Rose Quartz Silver ring size 7.5, a yoga set complete with bands, blocks, mat, strap and towel, a basketball containing the Syracuse University basketball team statistics, signed by coach Jim Boeheim, a football autographed by Michael Strahan, a World Series 2009 Baseball autographed by retired NY Yankee Andy Pettite, ‘beer for a year’ from the Empire Brewing Company, McNeil Jewelers Chocolate Freshwater pearls, a Kindle Fire HD 8, an iPad Air, Kate Spade handbag, a set of yard dice, a hunting camera donated by Mayhood’s Sporting Goods, Binghamton Senators tickets, a torch set donated by Chenango Welding Supply, and a 40” Samsung Smart TV.
Jeffrey added, “By supporting Casino Night people are helping the Northeast Classic Car Museum be a first rate tourist attraction that promotes economic growth within the county and the region.”
Said Carnrike, “For those who have never been, Casino Night is an evening out in Norwich spent at a wonderful venue where you can enjoy a meal, experience gambling (traditional casino gaming tables - not slot machines) and then use your winnings to bid on items at the live auction. The evening goes very quickly and when it ends, it is time well spent supporting the Northeast Classic Car Museum and hopefully you will spread the word and return to try your luck again next year.”
Carnrike added anecdotally, “A few weeks ago when I was leaving City Hall on a Friday evening, a gentleman stopped to talk with me about Norwich. He was from England and was on an annual trip to the US visiting Norwich because of the Northeast Classic Car Museum. He had visited the NECCM and said, "In my opinion, your motor museum is the best one in the world." This man was very interested in cars and traveled extensively so it was wonderful to hear that on his annual visit to the US he had planned his trip to include visiting our community because of the Northeast Classic Car Museum. I have been to the NECCM a number of times and it's important that people in our community take time to enjoy all that our area has to offer to visitors while visiting some of the places ourselves.”
The full dinner includes an appetizer station, salad bar, buffet and prime rib, provided and prepared by Tuller’s Catering and Party Service.
Winnings from gaming can be used at the live auction at the end of the event, but silent auction items are cash or charge only.
This classic event will be held in the NBT Bank Event Room of the Museum.
“We are very excited and appreciate the support we have gotten for Casino Night,” said Jeffrey. “All guests must be 21 years or older to attend. The Northeast Classic Car Museum thanks its main sponsors: Snyder Communications, Rapid Reproductions, New York Central Mutual Insurance Company, NBT Bank, Wells Fargo Advisors, and Corning Incorporated. Additionally, I want to thank the many table sponsors and volunteers who help make this event a success. Without these supporters the Northeast Classic Car Museum could not fulfill its mission to help promote economic commerce to the Norwich community and region.”
