Lady Blackhawks conclude season with a loss on the road
WALTON – The Oxford Blackhawks varsity girls soccer team traveled to Walton for their last game of the season in the MAC Crossover, ultimately losing to Walton 1-0.
The game, on Oct. 12, featured a stellar stalemated first half with both squads ending the defensive struggle with a 0-0 score.
However, with 26:38 left in the game in the second half, it was Walton who found the back of the net, for the go ahead strike from Kelsey Smith.
Smith's goal was just enough to lift Walton over Oxford for the final 1-0 win to close out the 2016 season.
The Warrior offense simply overpowered the Blackhawks, producing 13 shots and eight corners to Oxfords three shots and four corners.
In goal for Oxford was Alexis Kohlhepp who racked up 11 saves in the loss, while Shaelie McCenon managed three saves for the shutout win.
With the 1-0 loss on the road, Oxford concludes their 2016 season with an underwhelming record of 1-10 overall, and 3-12 in the league.
“This years team played hard and we were in a lot more games,” said Oxford head coach Kathleen Cragle “We will miss our seniors and wish them the best of luck in all they do.”
