Clinton skids Sherburne-Earlville's varsity boys soccer team's season to a halt
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville hosted division rival Clinton in what would prove to be their last game of the 2016 season, as S-E lost 3-0.
After racing to a quick 3-0 start to begin the game on Oct. 13, Clinton held that comfortable lead for the entire game.
The 3-0 lead at the half for Clinton came off the backs of John Conway, Connor Frank, and Matt Orlando with Garrett Frank piling on an assist.
The season finale game for S-E saw a struggling offense when faced with Clinton's prowess on defense – the Marauders managed just five shots on goal and one corner in the contest. Clinton's goalkeeper, Dominic Pascucci, had a stellar day making sure the 3-0 shutout remained that way with his five saves.
On the offensive side Clinton rained down on the S-E defense with their 17 shots on goal and seven corner kicks. S-E's goalkeeper, Thad Karaman recorded six saves, while Owen Rodriguez also stepped in for eight saves.
“The Marauders best chance to get on the board came when a penalty kick was drawn, but the Warrior's keeper made a diving save to preserve the shut out,” said Sherburne-Earlville head coach Mike Rodriguez.
Following the 3-0 loss, S-E will conclude their 2016 regular season and will not advance into the post-season; while Clinton will be awaiting their next matchup in sectional play.
