SOUTH OTSELIC – In response to what was referred to as a mental health call regarding an armed male suspect in close proximity to Otselic Valley Central Schools on Monday, Oct. 24, the school underwent an internal and external lockdown as a precaution. Lieutenant Richard Cobb of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office asserts that students were in no immediate danger.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., OVCSD Resource Officer, Deputy Sheriff D. Kruser, had received word of the potential threat and recommended that the school be put into lockdown. Deputy Sheriff Kruser and school administrators swept the building and confirmed the school was safe and normal school activities resumed, though no one was allowed in or out of the building.

While reporters were informed that New York State Troopers handled the situation involving the allegedly armed man, a media contact for Troop C did not immediately reply to The Evening Sun for comment prior to press time.
