Murder, sex crimes and burglaries among October indictments
CHENANGO COUNTY - A Chenango County grand jury met earlier last week to determine indictments for the month of October, 2016 and subsequently decided that there was enough evidence against seven individuals to charge them with at least one felony level crime, which included murder, sex crimes and burglary charges.
Along with Jeremy P. Coates, 46, of Norwich, and Melissa K. Crispell, 42, of Oxford, who's indictments on murder, robbery and assault charges were reported in Monday's edition of The Evening Sun, five other individuals were charged with at least one felony offense.
• Francis D. Quackenbush, 43, of Smyrna, was charged with two felonies, and one misdemeanor offense. Quackenbush faces two counts of rape in the third degree, a class E felony; and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on or about Aug. 5, 2016, at a residence on Bisby Road, in the Town of Smyrna, the defendant, being over the age of 21, did unlawfully engage in sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 17.
It is further alleged that at the aforesaid time and place, the defendant did knowingly act in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of a child less than 17 years of age by subjecting said child to sexual contact.
• Austin S. Capolupo, 19, of Afton, was charged with one felony offense, as well as one misdemeanor count. Capolupo faces one count of rape in the second degree, a class D felony; and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on a day during the month of August, 2016, at a residence on Coyles Lane, in the Town of Afton, the defendant, being 18-years-old or more, did engage in sexual contact with a female less than 15-years-old.
It is further alleged that at the aforesaid time and place, the defendant did knowingly act in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of a child less than 17 years of age by subjecting said child to sexual contact.
• Donald L. Towndrow, 26, of Norwich, was charged with one felony, as well as one misdemeanor. Towndrow faces one count of burglary in the third degree, a class D felony; and one count of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on or about July 29, 2016, at a residence in Delaware Square, in the City of Norwich, the defendant, while acting in concert with others, did knowingly and remain unlawfully in a building with the intent to commit a crime. Thereafter, the defendant, while acting in concert with others, did commit the crime of larceny therein by stealing numerous construction tools from within, including, but not limited to, a DeWalt drill, a drill driver, two 20-volt batteries, a jig saw, battery chargers, a drywall gun, an electric DeWalt sawzaw and two Irwin clamps.
The petit larceny charges alleges that Towndrow, at the aforesaid time and place, and while acting in concert with others, did steal the numerous construction tools from the building.
• Kara L. Conklin, 45, of Norwich, was charged with one felony, as well as one misdemeanor. Conklin faces one count of criminal nuisance in the first degree, a class E felony; and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that during the month of August, 2016, at a residence on Cortland Street, in the City of Norwich, the defendant, while acting in concert with another, did knowingly and unlawfully allow individuals to gather at her residence for the purpose of engaging in unlawful sales of cocaine, a controlled substance. Further, it is alleged that the defendant did benefit monetarily from the controlled substance transactions that took place at her residence.
The criminal possession charge alleges that at the aforesaid time and place, Conklin did knowingly and unlawfully possess cocaine, a controlled substance.
• Rafe E. Bonner, 44, of Norwich, was charged with two felonies, as well as one misdemeanor. Bonner faces one count of burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; one count of assault in the second degree, a class D felony; and one count of assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on or about July 27, 2016, at a residence on County Road 34, in the Town of Norwich, the defendant did knowingly and unlawfully remain in the dwelling of a female victim with the intent to commit a crime. Thereafter, the defendant did commit the crime of assault therein by striking the victim in the head with his closed fist, and, after she fell to the floor, he did proceed to kick her in the side and legs.
• Christopher W. White, 28, of Sherburne, was charged with one felony, as well as one misdemeanor. White faces one count of burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; and one count of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that during the month of September, 2016, at a residence on Howard Hill Road, in the Town of Smyrna, the defendant did knowingly enter and remain unlawfully in the dwelling of a female victim with the intent to commit a crime. Thereafter, the defendant did commit the crime of larceny therein by stealing a 24 karat gold diamond ring with three diamonds, a gold wedding band, a gold basket weave ring, a gold rope necklace with diamond and sapphire pendant, a 14 karat gold coral ring, two 23 karat gold Dale Earnhardt collectable cards, a 1929 silver coin, a 1939 copper half-penny, a 1930 copper penny and a 1968 Sherburne bi-centennial coin from within.
The petit larceny count alleges that at the aforesaid time and place, the defendant did steal several pieces of jewelry, collectable cards and collectable coins from within the victims residence.
