Fourth suspect sentenced in Prospect Street meth bust
NORWICH – The fourth individual involved in what authorities referred to as 'the largest meth bust to date in the City of Norwich' was sentenced to serve two and a half years in the New York State Department of Corrections in Chenango County Court on Monday, Oct. 24.
Patrick S. Davenport Jr., 25, of Oxford, agreed to enter a plea of guilty to one count of unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the third degree, a class D felony, and was sentenced as a predicate felon. Along with his sentence, Davenport will also serve a year of post-release supervision, and is liable for $4,333.16 in restitution.
Davenport was one of four suspects accused of cooking and using methamphetamine at a residence across from an elementary school, on Prospect Street, in the City of Norwich, on Feb. 10, 2016. After receiving a trespass complaint, authorities at the time said that they recovered several 'one-pot' methamphetamine cooking containers located throughout the apartment, which was reportedly supposed to be vacant.
After his apprehension, Davenport was originally charged with unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the third degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine, a class E felony; unlawful disposal of methamphetamine laboratory material, a class E felony; and criminal trespass in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
During Davenport's sentencing in County Court, Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride urged the defendant to avail of drug treatment programs in prison. “This defendant has been before the court before. He obviously has an addiction and drug problem,” said McBride. “Our hands are tied. I ask that you (Davenport) take advantage of the programs offered to you in state prison. Good luck to you, sir.”
When given an opportunity to speak at his sentencing, Davenport apologized for his actions. “I just want to say that I apologize to the victims family and I apologize to my family.”
Davenport signed a written waiver of appeal at the conclusion of proceedings.
