Bobcats make it three in a row with win over Moravia

MORAVIA – The Bainbridge-Guilford varsity football team – once one of Chenango County's 0-5 teams – has now advanced their record to 3-5 after they handily defeated Moravia on the road, winning 28-14.
“It was 40 degrees, wet, and windy so we only threw two times,” said B-G head coach Israel Lorimer. “It was a lot of Austin (Carr), and a lot of Bailey (Hotaling).”
B-G boasted an impressive running game in the matchup last Friday, Oct. 21, as Carr finished as the Bobcats top rusher with 134 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, with running back Bailey Hotaling trailing Carr with his nine carries for 107 yards and strike of his own.
However, the easy 28-14 win for B-G didn’t start as easily as one would expect. Moravia received the ball first in the game and opened up the contest with a long roughly eight minute drive for the score – Jordan Crossgrove ran the ball in from three yards out.
“We get the ball after their eight minute opening drive, they were nice, they were picking up fourth downs, they went for it twice and got it,” said coach Lorimer regarding the Moravia opening drive score.
However, despite the punch from Moravia right out the gates, Lorimer's young but resilient team responded in fashion.
“Then we got the ball and we were like in fast motion, we were getting eight or nine yards a carry. We go down and score, then miss the extra point so now it's 6-6.”
The second quarter for B-G marked a 21-point explosion on the scoreboard as Austin Carr rushing three touchdowns in for the Bobcats – one yard touchdown, 32 yard touchdown, and 28 yard touchdown respectively.
“We stuff them up, we get the ball, go right down the field and score,” said coach Lorimer of Carr's first score on the day in the second. “Then we did the same thing. We stuffed them up again, then went right down and scored. It was nice mix between Bailey (Hotaling) and Austin (Carr) all day.”
The third quarter saw a Bailey Hotaling touchdown come from three yards out after the workhorse back did some heavy lifting on the drive only to be rewarded with the six points.
“We dominated the game after that first drive (Moravia), we were getting big chunks on runs,” said coach Lorimer. “We really played well considering everything, and that got us the win.”
The fourth quarter – against a heavy second string defense from B-G – Moravia finally found the end zone once again when Nate Williams ripped off a 26 yard run to the house for the score, cutting into the Bobcats lead, making the score 28-14.
Bainbridge-Guilford closed out the game with that 28-14 score as the final, officially taking home their third consecutive win of the season, which draws their overall record to 3-5.
“It would be awful nice to finish 4-0,” said coach Lorimer. “If we play the way we have been lately then I think we can handle them.”
Bainbridge-Guilford will get that chance at home to potentially tack on a final win in 2016 when they host Thomas A. Edison (1-7 overall) for their final game on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.
“Three in a row, we're hoping to make it four,” said coach Lorimer.
