Undefeated Milford Academy celebrates 100 year anniversary

NEW BERLIN – The Milford Academy Falcons made some history with their latest wins to close out the 2016 football season.
With a tight win over rival Erie Community College at 30-29, on Nov. 6, – which effectively knocked Erie out of a potential bowl game – the Falcons turned around and followed this win up with yet another win over the junior varsity team of Navy at 18-13, on Nov. 11. These last two wins officially handed Milford Academy a complete undefeated season, going 11-0 – running the table with their opponents of the 2016 schedule. 11-0 marks a big improvement from their 2015 record of 7-3 overall.
Accompanying the 11-0 season for 2016, the Falcons also celebrate their head coach's successes, as head coach Bill Chaplick has now racked up 151 wins in 17 seasons coaching at Milford Academy. The 150th win coming against Erie Community College.
“This is a special group, I just knew back in the spring camp. And when they came in in August they came in with the intent of running the schedule. At no given time did they even think about a loss,” said coach Chaplick. “This is a bold statement because of all the great players we've had, but this is probably the best group of wide receivers, as far as depth is concerned. We have six guys just in the wide receiver group who are looking at scholarships.”
The undefeated season commemorates the 100th year anniversary of the football oriented prep-school who will now prepare for their 'pro-day' Fall Practice. Milford Academy invites the community to come out for their 27th annual Maroon and White Fall Practice on Nov. 28, from 8:30 a.m. until the live scrimmage at 3 p.m. that day.
The doors open at Milford Academy at 8:30 p.m. to the public, collegiate scouts and the press – as the 50 or so football prep-students on the Falcons roster for 2016 will showcase their skills during positional drills throughout the day, before taking to the field for a live scrimmage.
These athletes will be seeking scholarships at the college level, in an effort to continue their ball playing and further their education. Currently there are 12 Milford athletes who have offers from colleges.
“We had a lot of good players this year. They were all gamers who came to play every week. It really was a pleasure coaching them, and it has as much to do with their character as anything. They are winners,” said Offensive Coordinator Buff Bowen.
