NBT Bank to teach smart saving habits to Afton elementary students

AFTON – Afton Central School has teamed up with NBT Bank to add financial education to its curriculum. On Friday, Dec. 9, the school is bringing NBT Bank's Strive® financial literacy programs to students in pre-kindergarten through second grade in an effort to instill strong financial habits and awareness at a young age.

It is reported that students who participate in this program will be able to identify money-saving choices and explain how spending choices can impact the environment. Friday's session will specifically focus on enhancing their mathematical and science skills.

NBT Bank Customer Service Representative Jennifer Cower will visit Afton Central School to teach young students about 'silly' saving spots. Students will learn from Cower that some places are safer to keep their money than others. She will then share a story about a boy who puts his money in silly places, only then to discover it has gone missing. The students will then arrange different places to keep money in order from the least safe to the safest.
