S-E swimming earns first win of the season

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders varsity swimming and diving team officially earned their first team win last week – following an 0-3 start – and after losing their most recent matchup will now rest at a 1-4 overall record.
Splitting meets over the weekend span, S-E first earned their lone win when they defeated Proctor last Thursday, Dec. 8, by a score of 93-76. Following the win against Proctor – which saw eight S-E champions in the eleven events – the Marauders then took to the road over the weekend for a meet against Syracuse City, to which they lost by a score of 86-75.
Below are the results from the two meets:
S-E defeats Proctor 93-76.
• 200 Medley Relay: Sherburne-Earlville's Wilson, Larchar, McDaniel, Rinaldo earned the relay win at 2:06.45.
• 200 Freestyle: Ed Geier of S-E managed to earn the win with a time of 2:19.63.
• 200 Individual Medley: Caleb Larchar of S-E grabbed the third overall win for his team when he raced to a final time of 2:43.02.
• 50 Freestyle: Proctor's Brandyn Miller earned his team's first win on the night when he won the event by a time of 27.46.
• Diving: No contest at the event.
• 100 Butterfly: Braeden Wilson of S-E managed to get the Marauders back on track when he raced to a winning time of 1:12.11.
• 100 Freestyle: featured S-E's Ben Rinaldo who grabbed the event for S-E with his winning time of 1:01.74.
• 500 Freestyle: Josh Larchar of S-E took home the first place finish in the event with his time of 6:29.79.
• 200 Freestyle Relay: The S-E squad consisting of Rinaldo, Ryan, Geier, and Wilson took home the win with their time of 1:51.98.
• 100 Backstroke: Proctor grabbed another win – their second so far on the night – when Giovanni Malpezzi took the race with a time of 1:14.63.
• 100 Breaststroke: Jean Carlos Garcia of Proctor, snagged another win for the home team when he claimed the win with his time of 1:14.63.
• 400 Freestyle Relay: In the final race of the night Sherburne-Earlville put together a relay featuring Larchar, McDaniel, Wilson, and Geier who combined for a winning time of 4:17.49.
Syracuse City defeats S-E 86-75.
• 200 Medley Relay: Syracuse City's relay team – Vigliotti, Dengel, Briscoe, and Kaftan – claimed the early win with their combined time of 1:58.64.
• 200 Freestyle: Joshua Abbott of Syracuse would continue with another win at 2:14.35.
• 200 Individual Medley: Syracuse made it three in a row when John Gilbert took the win with a time of 2:38.38.
• 50 Freestyle: Jack Kaftan of Syraucse claimed another win for his team when he posted a stellar time in the sprint at 25.84.
• Diving: Meikhi Scott of Syracuse took home the win with a total of 192.95 points scored.
• 100 Butterfly: Alex Dengel of Syracuse claimed yet another first overall win for the home team with Dengal's time of 1:08.84.
• 100 Freestyle: Syracuse's Robert Briscoe claimed the win for himself when he managed a time of 57.63.
• 500 Freestyle: Joshua Abbott took home another individual win, helping his team with his time of 6:09.48.
• 200 Freestyle Relay: It was then that Sherburne-Earlville finally managed to overcome the home squad to claim an overall individual win on the night. The relay consisting of Wilson, Ryan, Geier, and Rinaldo swam a winning time of 1:52.15.
• 100 Backstroke: Braeden Wilson of S-E continued the trend for the Marauders when he raced to a win at 1:17.87.
• 100 Breaststroke: Ben Rinaldo saw his opportunity to claim a win and took home some hardware with his time of 1:23.66.
• 400 Freestyle Relay: The final event of the night would ultimately go to S-E who saw their relay team of Larchar, McDaniel, Wilson, and Geier snatch one more win on the night with a time of 4:31.70.
Despite the solid efforts of late – and claiming a solid win over Proctor – Sherburne-Earlville will still come to rest at a record of 1-4 overall as they enter the fresh week. Up next for the Marauders, they will head to Oneida on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 4:30 p.m.
