Abigail Selfridge makes All-State team

BAINBRIDGE – The sophomore standout from Bainbridge-Guilford was recently named to the All-State team as a selection earlier this December.

Selfridge was named to the fourth team All-State, from Section IV Class C, as a setter and hitter – and remarkably is the lone representative from Chenango County.

Selfridge helped take the Bobcats deep into the postseason in 2016, as they finished undefeated in the regular season, while going 16-1 overall, and 9-1 in Class C.

Selfridge was individually recognized as a Midstate Athletic Conference (MAC) First Team All-Star, while also being recognized with her team as the 2016 MAC Champions after defeating Harpursville-Afton.

The team advanced to the Class C Sectional finals after defeating Moravia, Trumansburg and Watkins Glen – before falling to Tioga in the Section IV Final. This would mark their lone loss on the season.

“Abigail is an all-around player who has a very high understanding of the game and leads her team by example. Statistically for her team, she had the most aces and kills,” said Bainbridge-Guilford Varsity Volleyball Coach Tammi Selfridge. “Her setting technique as well as distribution are high level, and the only reason she didn't lead her team in assists is because statistically it is virtually impossible for one person to have the most kills and assists.”
