Chenango United Way facing cash shortage, essential programs teeter

NORWICH—With the end of the Chenango United Way's 2016 campaign in sight, bean counting has begun, and so have fears of the organization not hitting it's mark.

“As of today, the Chenango United Way campaign has reached just 73 percent of its $419,000 goal— about $306,000,” said CUW Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco. “While we have certainly seen some money come in over the last two weeks, I am still extremely concerned about the status of this year’s campaign.”

To add insult to injury, Monaco says that in addition to downturn in the number of donations the organization has received, the value of those donations is also on the decline, creating a potential recipe for disaster.

“Most of our corporate campaigns have concluded, and many have ended at 60-70 percent of last year’s totals, she explained. “Our end of year projections don’t look good. I am anticipating that we will only reach between $380,000 and $390,000 of our $419,000 goal.”
