Lady Bobcats continue to steamroll teams; remain undefeated
BAINBRIDGE – Only up by one point at 10-9 the games result and subsequently the undefeated season of the Bainbridge-Guilford girls varsity basketball team – thankfully the one-points lead and therefore close game was the score following just the first period of play.
A second period saw B-G explode for 17-points while the Bobcats defense closed the door on any and nearly all scoring for their Monday evening opponent Windsor in the second period – as the lady Black Knights managed just two-points to close out the first half.
The game, played at Bainbridge-Guilford High School on Jan. 9, saw Bainbridge-Guilford, are officially ranked eighth in New York State for Class C, as of Jan. 3, when the most recent New York Sportswriter Association released their state rankings.
Following this win over Windsor at 57-37 on Jan. 9, Bainbridge-Guilford now remains undefeated at 9-0 overall and looks to climb in the next release of the state rankings.
The lady Bobcats took the 27-11 point lead at the half, and decided to continue to burry Windsor on the scoreboard – posting an explosive 20 point third period before tapering the offense off to only grab 10 fourth period points. Windsor, was able to post back-to-back 13 point periods in the second half, but would not be able to climb out of the early deficit to attempt any form of a comeback as the game was decided at the halftime buzzer essentially.
Bainbridge-Guilford – a solid squad throughout – is being led on the season game after game by Abigail Selfridge and Megan Palmatier. The duo combined for 35 points – Selfridge doing all her damage in the first three periods, scoring 25; while Palmatier played a similar pattern, doing all her scoring in the first three periods en route to a 10 point performance.
Selfridge and Palmatier have been huge contributors on why the Bainbridge-Guilford lady Bobcats are sitting at a perfect 9-0 season almost midway through January.
Next up for Bainbridge-Guilford (9-0 overall, 3-0 league) they will play home against Harpursville on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 7:15 p.m.
