GREENE – The Greene varsity boy’s swimming team faced off against Windsor last Friday, Feb. 3, losing on a final score of 82 points to 42.
In a very rough start for the Trojans, they only secured seven points from the first four events of the match. In the 200 meter medley relay, Greene finished third, with a time of 2:10.15, while in the 50-meter freestyle event, Gray Reid earned his side two points with a fourth place finish.
Things began too look up for the Trojans in the next three events, as they accumulated 13 points. Matt DeJager greatly contributed to his team’s efforts as he put in the best performance of the night for the Trojans. He claimed the top spot on the podium in the 100-meter freestyle event, with a time of 1:08.63, earning his squad six points.
Greene closed out the match well, as they achieved first place honors in both the 200-meter freestyle relay, as well as the 100-meter breaststroke event, where Matt DeJager once again reigned supreme, clocking a time of 1:16.79. However, that wasn’t enough for the Trojans, as they succumbed to the 40-point defeat.
Next up for the Greene varsity swimming and diving team, they will continue their regular season at home when they host Southern Cayuga Central on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 5:30 p.m. Following a Friday meet at Dryden, on Feb. 10, the team will then prepare to go to the preliminary trial round of the Section IV tournament next Wednesday, Feb. 15.
