Second suspect in custody in connection to Afton shooting
AFTON - On Friday February 3, 2017, the New York State Police at Sidney, N.Y. arrested Kevin M. Roof, 44, of Binghamton, on the charge of burglary in the second degree, a class C felony.
The arrest occurred following further investigation into an incident that took place on the morning of January 30 at approximately 11:10 a.m., when the Chenango County 911 center received a report of shots fired in the area of Algerine Street in the Town of Afton. Responding Troopers secured the situation and later determined a burglary had occurred.
After consultation with Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride, the New York State Police arrested Roof after his release from the hospital where he had been treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper leg. Roof was said to have received this injury during the course of his criminal conduct.
Roof was arraigned in Chenango County Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $500,000 property bail pending a future court appearance in the Town of Afton Court.
