Lady Blackhawks lose to Crimson Knights on senior night

OXFORD – It was a night to remember for the Oxford varsity girl’s basketball team on their senior night, which took place last night, Feb. 7.
However, despite the celebration of their six graduating seniors (Gabby Martinez, Kylie Roys, Jackie Murrer, Katelyn Diamond, Raigen Ehly, and Cheyenne Nebel) – the lady Blackhawks fell victim to Afton on a final score of 40-24.
The story of the game for the Blackhawks was poor offense, which eventually led to their demise. After mustering just four points in the first quarter, Oxford tacked on five more in the second, adding up to just a meager nine points at the half.
The Blackhawks performed better in the second half, but couldn’t contain Afton’s Paige Polizzi on the defensive end. She was a constant thorn in their side, and finished the night as the games top scorer, netting 17 points for the Crimson Knights, who cruised to a rather comfortable 16-point win.
Best in the loss for Oxford was Raigen Ehly, who had a game-high eight points in the game for the Blackhawks.
Next up for Oxford, they will compete in the MAC league tournament, which starts this Friday, Feb. 10.
