Lady Storm snag senior night win
NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley girls basketball team shot down any notion of a loss on their home court – as the Storm earned a win on their senior night this past Friday, easily defeating Oxford by a score of 52-13.
Prior to the start of the contest, the Storm recognized their four graduating seniors: Abbie Oglesby, Megan Winton, Skyler Bard, and Gina DelSontro.
“We finally played a good game. Every one scored and we shot great from the foul line,” said Unadilla Valley head coach Brandi Whitbeck.
Unadilla Valley got out to a fast start in the game and truly never looked back. They managed to lead Oxford 26-6 at the half. Scoring 14 of her team high 18 points in the first half – Shelby Meade led the offensive charge for the Lady Storm.
Setting the pace at the halftime mark – up 20 points over the lady Blackhawks – UV failed to take the pressure off of the visitors dumping in 15 third period points, before grabbing an additional 11 to close out the deal.
Julia Oglesby balled out I honor of her sister – Abbie – as she recorded eight points for the Storm, while proving to be a monster on the defense snagging 10 boards.
In consolation, Oxford was able to best their second half production with seven second half points. Leading the lady Blackhawks in scoring was Raigen Ehly with four points.
Unadilla Valley did play Greene – for their senior night on Feb. 7, in Greene – this game will be reported in tomorrow's edition of The Evening Sun. Next up for Unadilla Valley, they will prepare for the MAC league tournament, which starts this coming Friday, Feb. 10.
