Marauder first half offense key to win over Wildcats

BOONVILLE— If not for first half offensive effort from the Sherburne-Earlville girls varsity basketball team, the Adirondack Wildcats could’ve made a much more significant dent in the Marauders lead during the second half of action. However, a lot can be said for a Marauder defense that only allowed the host Wildcats to score 12 points over the first 16 minutes of play.
Ultimately, the defensive stands that Sherburne-Earlville had in the first quarter left the Wildcats with a lack of offensive and defensive rhythm. This only aided the guest Marauders who scored 15 points in the opening frame. S-E added in another 14 points in the second period. Out of the Marauders 29 opening half points, Lexi Elderkin scored all 13 of her points on the night over the first two periods of play.
If the first half belonged to Elderkin, then the second half belonged to Miranda Wright who posted 11 of her team high 15 points over the final two quarters. The Wildcats tried to respond and cut the deficit in the second half by outscoring the visitors 24-19, as the Marauders took the win 48-46.
Miranda Wright finished with a double-double scoring her aforementioned 15 points while grabbing 11 boards, teammate Lexi Elderkin nearly had a double-double pulling down seven rebounds in addition to her 13 points. Camille Roberts led the Wildcats with 10 points in the set back.
The Marauders finish the regular season with an overall record of 11-7, they now await sectional play.
