OTSELIC – The Otselic Valley girl’s varsity basketball team battled their way through adversity and injury troubles recently, but fell just short in their last two games, against Canastota and Stockbridge.
On Monday, Feb. 6, the team had just six players available on the roster as they took on Stockbridge, and ultimately lost on a final score of 76-22.
The game wasn’t really a contest after the first quarter, as Stockbridge surged out to an unassailable 25-point lead after the opening quarter, outscoring the Vikings 28-3.
Stockbridge extended their lead even further in the second quarter, and went in at the interval with a 36-point advantage.
Things didn’t get any better for OV in the third quarter, as they failed to notch a single point, but they finished the game out strong with 12 in the fourth quarter. There was never really a chance for the Vikings to try and chip away at the huge lead that Stockbridge held, and the succumbed to a 54-point trouncing.
On Tuesday, Feb. 7, Otselic Valley played in a much tighter contest, but just fell short against Canastota, as they lost on a final score of 46-38.
A poor start on the offensive end put the Viking in a deep eight-point hole to begin the game, but they redeemed themselves in the second quarter, scoring 18 points and went in to the halftime break leading by two-points.
The staunch defense that OV had upheld for much of the game before hand fell apart in the third quarter, and that ended up ultimately costing them the win, as they lost by an eight-point margin.

The Vikings will celebrate their senior night this Friday, Feb. 10, as they host McGraw.
