BAINBRIDGE – It’s been a good couple of days for the Bainbridge-Guilford boy’s varsity basketball team, as they race down the final stretch of the regular season with two consecutive victories.
On Friday, Feb. 3, the Bobcats took on fellow Chenango County rival Oxford in a tantalizing matchup. After an enthralling contest from start to finish, B-G just eked out a win, on a scoreline of 47-44.
Going into the fourth quarter down by a mere two points, a strong offensive surge to the end of regulation powered the Bobcats to victory, as they outscored their opponents 16-11 in the fourth – to edge out a three-point win.
Early on in the game the Bobcat offense struggled to find rhythm, and quickly fell down 13-8 after the first quarter. They managed to improve and keep the encounter close in the second, with both teams scoring 12 apiece.
The Bobcats held the upper hand in the entirety of the second half, and used good offensive tactics, as well as defensive futility, to heave their way to victory.
Sean Jones was the star of the show for B-G, as he finished with 19 points in his side’s victory. Blackhawk Jason Davis finished as the game’s top scorer with 21 points, but that wasn’t enough to quell defeat.

The Bobcats held their senior night on Monday, Feb. 6, and celebrated in style for their four graduating seniors, as they took down another Chenango County school – the Trojans of Greene – on a final score of 43-35.
In this matchup, B-G came out firing on all cylinders on the offense end, and their defense was just as good, if not better. The Bobcats jumped out to a 20-4 lead after just the opening quarter.
From that point on, the play was just a formality, as the Bobcats earned a massive lead. Greene tried their best to chip away at said lead, but could not come up with enough offensive prowess, and fell to the eight point loss.
Trevor Halaquist and Zach Ouimet shared the spoils in this game, as they contributed 14 and 13 points each respectively to their team’s total in the victory.
Next up for the Bobcats (8-8 overall) will next see live-action on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they travel to Sidney at 7:15 p.m. Greene (6-11 overall), will see their next game come on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they host Unadilla Valley for the regular season finale.
