DCMO BOCES employee arrested for third-degree grand larceny, few details released

NORWICH – A Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego (DCMO) BOCES employee was arrested by members of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office Wednesday, February 8, and is facing a third-degree grand larceny charge – a class D felony – after the alleged embezzlement from a local fire department, according to a media release from DCMO BOCES.
The memo states that the DCMO BOCES administration was made aware of the accusations on February 4, and the employee was subsequently put on administrative leave in the wake of the investigation.
The name of the employee in question was not made public due to the issue being a personnel matter.
Lieutenant Richard Cobb of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office said that he was unable to make additional public comments on the investigation and subsequent arrest, aside of the fact that the larceny did not take place at DCMO BOCES.
“It only had to do with her position as treasurer of the fire department,” said Cobb.
As previously stated, the employee in question was arrested on February 8, but the DCMO BOCES release noted, “As we understand it, the charges, although serious in nature, are merely accusations at this point, and the employee, like all citizens, is presumed innocent of any criminal offense until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
“The DCMO BOCES administration is cooperating fully with the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, District Attorney's Office, and any other governmental agencies that may become involved in the case,” states the DCMO BOCES media release. “We intend to take all steps necessary to respect the employee's rights while, at the same time, taking all prudent steps to ensure the integrity of BOCES's finances.”
It is reported that the BOCES administration has enlisted D'Arcangelo & Co., LLP, – certified accountants – to do an internal audit of business functions that occurred during the employment of the employee.
At this time, DCMO BOCES reports that they did not incur any financial losses in this matter, as far as they are aware.
“To ensure the integrity of the DCMO BOCES financial security, we will continue to follow the advice of the Ferrara Fiorenza P.C. Law firm and D'Arcangelo & Co., LLP,” concluded the release.
More information will be published in future editions of The Evening Sun as it is made public.
