DRYDEN – The Greene boy’s varsity swimming team closed out a record-wise disappointing 0-10 season with a loss against Dryden last Friday, Feb. 10, on a final score of 97-53.
It was a tale of two half’s for the Trojans in this meet. They came out of the gates strong, securing a second place finish in the first event of the night, the 200-meter medley relay, with a time of 2:08.79, before Gray Reid went on to top the podium in the second event of the night, the 200-meter freestyle, clocking a time of 2:13.15.
Greene got themselves back to the podium in the fourth event of the night, the 50-meter freestyle, as Dustin Markham secured a second-place finish for the Trojans. Dominic Williams clinched the top spot in the fifth event of the night, the 1-meter dive, with a score of 175.30.
In the eighth event of the night, Gray Reid once again came in first place, this time in the 500-meter freestyle, with a time of 6:10.41. He was also a part of the 200-meter freestyle relay team that recorded a personal record time of 1:51.71 to again claim first place in the ninth event of the meet. Matt DeJager had a good night once again, as he locked up another first place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke, with a time of 1:15.14.
Everyone on the team will travel to Watkins Glen on Wednesday, Feb. 15, to participate in the preliminary round of Sectionals. If they qualify, they will take part in the Tournament next Saturday, Feb. 18, which will be held in Owego.
“We have some nice seeds going into prelims,” said Trojan head coach MK Dugue. “We’re thinking that everyone will make it back on Saturday in at least one individual event.
Dominic Williams and Matt DeJager are the highest seeded Trojans, as Williams is ranked third out of nine divers in the one meter diving with a best of 179.20; and DeJager is seeded fifth out of 26 swimmers in the 100-meter breaststroke event.
