SHERBURNE – In their last game of the regular season, the Sherburne-Earlville girl’s varsity basketball team clinched a share of the League championship honors last night, Feb. 14, as they triumphed over Canastota on a final score of 46-28.
The Marauder offense was firing right out of the gate, as they racked up 21 points in the first quarter alone, and raced out to an early 17-point lead. They tacked on nine more in the second quarter to go in at the halftime break winning by a scoreline of 30-9.
After that point, the game wasn’t much of a contest. Canastota attempted a comeback, but ultimately could not harness enough offensive prowess, and fell to the 18-point defeat, granting S-E a share of the Championship honors in the process.
Best in the crucial win for the Marauders were Lexi Elderkin, who finished as the game-high scorer, netting 14 points, and Tessa Cole, who finished with nine points, as well as six rebounds, and four steals.
Marauder head coach Karen Mulligan said that the team will learn where they are seeded for sectional play later on in the week.
