Chenango Arts Council awards $4,500 in grant funding to area teachers

NORWICH – The Chenango Arts Council (CAC) recently reported that its Board of Directors has approved $4,500 in grants to be awarded to nine teachers throughout Chenango County schools through its Grants for Teachers Program.
According to a media release from CAC, teachers will use the grant money for special field trips, the production of a musical performance, creative public speaking and theater workshops, and the purchase of various supplies and equipment.
“The Grants for Teachers Program provides funding directly to classroom teachers responsible for achieving New York State Education Department Learning Standards for the Arts or English Language Arts,” states the CAC media release. “With a minimum of 'red tape' and a maximum of flexibility, this program provides funding up to $500 per project to directly meet the needs of teachers.”
This year's grant recipients are: Maureen Bartlett, Jonathan Carey, Courtney Emerson, Barbara Hotchkin, Michael Moran, Susan Scafidi, Joanne Stafford, Wendy Tubbert-Swingle, and Matt Wilson.
The listed teachers all work at Chenango County schools, including DCMO BOCES, Norwich Middle School, Stanford Gibson Primary School, Oxford Academy, and Perry Browne Intermediate School.
The Grants for Teachers Program is currently funded by corporate donations from Golden Artist Colors, Community Bank NA, WalMart, and ACCO Brands.
Since the Grants for Teachers Program's inception in 2004, CAC reports that nearly $41,000 has been awarded to area teachers.
The next application deadline for CAC's Grants for Teachers Program is Jan. 5, 2018.
All Pre-K – 12 teachers currently employed by any Chenango County school district are eligible to apply for the program's next grant.
The Chenango Arts Council is a registered 501c(3) non-profit that strives to “support life-enriching arts throughout the greater Chenango region by facilitating the discovery of art in everyday life.”
