Greene couple faces several charges related to alleged animal abuse

GREENE - Sheriff Ernest Cutting reported that on March 7, 2017 Martin W. Canny, 62, and Mary T. Canny, 63, both of the Town of Greene, were arrested on agriculture and markets law violations.

Martin and Mary Canny are being charged with seven counts of failure to provide proper sustenance to farm animals and dogs.

On March 6, a Chenango County Deputy was investigating the original complaint in regards to the incident, while being assisted by the Leather Stocking Veterinary Clinic, located in New Berlin.

The Veterinarian, Dr. Schneider, responded and allegedly deemed numerous animals to be malnourished, and recommended them to be removed from the property and offered assistance from the clinic.

The Town of Greene Dog Control Officer also responded to the location for the alleged poor condition of one of the dogs, which was removed that evening.
